APPLICATION OF THERAPEUTIC COMMUNICATION IN MENTAL DISORDER PATIENTS

Therapeutic communication is consciously designed communication whose aims and activities are centered on the patient's recovery. Therapeutic communication in mental hospitals is very important to achieve nursing goals and actions. The aim of this research is to describe the application of therapeutic communication to patients with mental disorders at Dadi Hospital, South Suawesi Province. This research uses a descriptive method with cross sectional research. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with a sample size of 37 nurses. The data collection method in the research used univariate data analysis observation sheets. The results of this study showed that 28 nurses (75.7%) in the pre-interaction phase were good and 9 nurses (24.3%) in the pre-interaction phase were poor, in the orientation phase 30 nurses (81.1%) were good and 7 nurses (18.9%) in the orientation phase were poor. . Then in the work phase, 27 nurses (73.0%) were in the good work phase and 10 nurses (27.0%) were in the poor work phase. And finally, in the termination phase, 32 nurses (86.5%) were in the good termination phase and 5 nurses (13.5%) were in the poor termination phase. The research results showed that patients with mental disorders experienced four phases of implementing therapeutic communication in the good category. The results of this research encourage interested parties to conduct additional research and hopefully have a wider and more reliable sample to ensure validity. In this case, related institutions, such as Nursing Hospitals, can improve their communication techniques.
